The following modules will be covered in the BSc (Hons) Business Management (Top-Up) degree course, carrying a total of 120 credits.
This module evaluates the concepts, theories and frameworks of strategic management to encourage you to think on a strategic level about how organisations and businesses can grow and compete. The module will also seek to develop an awareness of how the external environment influences strategic choice and an organisation’s ability to achieve competitive advantage on an international scale. You will critically appraise the overall challenges, issues and solutions, which are associated with the running of modern organisations, and synthesise some of the broader strategic issues involved in general management activities. You will also evaluate the role that stakeholders and culture play within an organisation and the options it has for growth and development. The module aims to cultivate your ability to review and criticise the existing body of knowledge in strategic management, and relate theory to practice; to develop your ability to identify, critique and apply relevant frameworks to business scenarios and case studies. This module aims to provide you with an opportunity to focus your studies on the people dimension of international business and management. In the competitive global arena of the 21st century, people are seen as key to the success of the organisation in achieving competitive advantage. As such, the role of International Human Resource Management has become increasingly important. Organisations, wherever they are based, need to ensure that they have the right people, in the right place at the right time. This module will enhance your understanding of the international context of Human Resource Management (HRM), specifically the importance of International HRM practices and factors which impact on this. This module will incorporate the following GAME Attributes: Global citizen and Adaptability
This module aims to help you gain knowledge and skills so that you can critically evaluate traditional and digital theories and concepts, and critically analyse the issues concerned with marketing planning, including macro environmental assessment, marketing mix development and market entry strategies. You will be given the opportunity to critically review marketing case studies, including live briefs, with an emphasis on the rise of, nature, and impact, of digital technology, E-Commerce and multichannel marketing. You will develop and critically apply knowledge and skills to help you identify and appraise marketing opportunities for both service and product marketing and apply methodologies for successful online and offline planning in domestic and international markets. In this module students will critically examine the strategic importance of effective logistics and operations management in securing competitive advantage in global business contexts. The module provides a concise treatment of the principles of modern logistics and operations management that underpin the timely delivery of materials and goods to the right places in the right quantities and in a cost-effective manner. Conceptual development will be supported by and made concrete through extensive use of examples and case studies drawn from a range of industries. This module will incorporate the following GAME Attributes: Problem Solver and Collaborative.
This dissertation module is designed to give you the opportunity to pursue a piece of individual research under the supervision of a tutor. The research focus must be relevant to business management, and if you have opted to follow a specific pathway, relevant to that pathway. The work should be academically rigorous, unique and address a specific question or issue. You will need to evaluate theories, principles, concepts and models relating to contemporary business and management practices. The work will also require you to undertake primary research and demonstrate familiarity with a range of research methodologies. Throughput the process you are required to critically appraise your skills development. This module will incorporate the following GAME Attributes: Resilient, Adaptable, Collaborative and Lifelong Learning.
